To celebrate those with a bright and optimistic outlook on life, Fairtrade-accredited wine brand Place in the Sun is calling on South Africans to nominate someone they believe has a positive attitude. Both the nominator and the nominee stand a chance of winning a R500 voucher to dine at a Col’Cacchio pizzeria in November, the final month of its Celebrity Chef series in aid of charity.
“Place in the Sun believes in making a difference to the lives of farmworkers and their families by paying a premium for the grapes harvested for our wines. The money is used to fund a range of farmworker community upliftment projects. Now here’s an opportunity to try and make a difference to the life of someone whose upbeat attitude helps others and be rewarded at the same time, by entering our optimistic competition,” said Dè-Mari Kellerman, global marketing spokesperson for Place in the Sun.
Place in the Sun is giving away 20 vouchers in all. The ten people who, in the view of the judges, give the most compelling reasons for nominating someone deserving of the pizza meal, will win a R500 voucher for themselves, with their nominees receiving the other ten vouchers.
For all of November, a pizza devised by Ivor Jones, the head chef of South Africa’s most highly-rated restaurant, The Test Kitchen, together with soccer hero Jabu Mahlangu, will be served with Place in the Sun Shiraz. The wine, brimming with ripe juicy red berry flavours with a hint of spice, is made in Zonnebloem’s award-winning cellars.
The Test Kitchen, in Cape Town, is the only restaurant in Africa to appear on the prestigious San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. It is also a regular winner of the local Eat Out Restaurant Awards.
Place in the Sun sources its grapes from two Stellenbosch farms in the Devon Valley. The premiums it pays fund educational, nutritional, health and recreational initiatives identified by a committee on which the farm workers are represented.
The sale of every Mahlangu/Jones signature pizza will see R5 go to The Children’s Hospital Trust, fundraiser for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and Paediatric Healthcare in the Western Cape. All funds raised will be used to upgrade and expand the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the hospital.
Place in the Sun competition winners can discover what makes Ivor Jones such a celebrated chef by ordering the pizza he and Mahlangu have created and enjoy it with Place in the Sun Shiraz or choose any other items on the menu to the value of R500.
Competition entries will be accepted from November 2 to 9 only, both dates inclusive, and the winners will be drawn and announced on November 10, entitling them to take up the vouchers any time from that day until November 30. All vouchers must be redeemed by November 30.
