Europe Business Assembly Director Ivan Savvov Will Speak At the UN Headquarters in Geneva

Are you aware of how dangerous and harmful fake news can be for the professional reputation of individuals, companies, and institutions? Europe Business Assembly Director Ivan Savvov is going to speak about this top important subject during the public hearings at the UN Headquarters in Geneva, on 20 February 2020.

Why Fake News Have Become So Hot Recently? Fake news has become a striking media companion that is being all-time mentioned in speeches of politicians and influencers globally. Every other social media user can regularly encounter them online, on TV, and in printed media sources. “In recent years, the massive dissemination of fake news under the disguise of the real news has reached a critical point and deserves more close attention. If we consider news making to be a journalistic genre, then today we can talk about the existence of fake news journalism”, – says Ivan Savvov from Europe Business Assembly.

The entire content can be fake: texts, photos, audio and video materials, etc. Artificially created or real opinion leaders can be used as fake news distributors while the news itself can be popularized by internet bots, through made-up social media accounts, by arranging multiple likes and positive comments on the internet, whatsoever.

By the influence of the social proof the false impression and the invented public opinion can be created, grown-up and approved to support certain fake facts and their further viral dissemination.

At the same time, there is no clear definition and delimitation of such concepts as ‘fake news’, ‘false information’, ‘disinformation’. At its core, fake news is stylistically created like real news, but they partially or completely include untrue messages about current or recent events.

According to the Europe Business Assembly, the issue of fake news and online aggression is very important for the entire society, public figures, business, and social media. The toxicity of the media space filled with false messages can not only scare potential customers and users but also break their reputation to pieces.

Moreover, the more popular a media channel is, the more attractive it can look for distributors of false content. This means that the biggest and most influential media of local, national and international scale can become a targeted platform to fake news distribution.

To combat such fake news Europe Business Assembly has established the Anti-fake News Investigation Agency (AIA) in April 2019.

AIA sets the following goals:

● To distribute knowledge about the negative outcomes of fake information in public. ● To help identify misinformation and fabricated data if the news is based on anonymous or unverified sources. ● To protect fake news victims by supporting them and providing the unbiased platform to speak up.
